Tokyo Managers' Union First Step Guide to Your Union Activities

Any workers who work in Japan are welcome to join Tokyo Managers’ Union（“MU”).
We believe that you will find the best way to solve your trouble at workplace through your union activities.
MU is one of Japan’s well known labor organizations. MU was founded on December 1993. Well over 150 workers join MU each year. MU had solved about 3,000 cases during 16 years.
MU is a union that is intended for individuals. It is a volunteer based organization. MU provides you the place to consult MU staff and talk with other members and help each other about troubles and disputes.
However, MU does not guide you nor save you. You are the one to make a decision on you own responsibilities. MU will support you, cooperate with you and fight with you.
After the global financial crisis emerged in September 2008, MU protects employee rights of both Japanese and foreign employee in Japan branch of major firms.

How can I make an appointment for free counseling?

Call MU at 03-5341-4905 and make an appointment with MU staff during office hours our office hours are 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.Monday-Friday and 1:00 p.m.to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays except national holidays. You can also e-mail us at 【sodan@mu-tokyo.ne.jp】. Free counseling will be held at MU office. The consultation hours are 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. If your case is urgent, the staff will meet you during office hours.
Bring a copy of important documents such as documents for layoff, dismissal, severance package, employment agreement, company rules, wage orders, payslips. If you are not good at speaking Japanese, bring an interpreter, your family or friend who speaks Japanese.
If there is an associate or coworker who is suffering from a same problem with yours, encourage him/her to come for free counseling together.

How can I get to the MU office?

See the Map (MAP) on our website. MU office is located in Yotsuya,Tokyo.The nearest stations are Shinjuku-gyoemmae (5min) and Yotsuya-sanchome (6min) on the Marunouchi Line (Tokyo Metro).

I live in the place far away from Tokyo. Will MU provide me nearer union contact information？

Yes, we do. Tell MU staff the city where you live in. The staff will give you contact information about nearer union. There are manager’s unions in each cities of Sapporo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Hukuoka. Or see the lists on our website which contains community unions’ information.

How can I join MU member?

Ask the staff to give you a copy of the application form. You are a member with MU’s approval. Two kinds of fee should be paid in cash. The initial fee is 10,000 Yen and the monthly membership fee is 5,000 Yen except July and December which monthly membership fee is 10,000 Yen.
